Teach what you love
Every CCSC instructor is a volunteer who actively competes — and titles their dogs — in the sport they teach. If you're out trialing on weekends and want to give back to the Columbia dog-sport community, there's a place for you at the front of a class.
What you get back
- Free building membership while you're teaching — 24/7 access via the NEXKEY app for your own training
- Ring time — instructors rent the agility ring at the reduced $10/30-minute rate
- Sharpen your own skills — nothing deepens your training like teaching it to someone else
- Mentorship — learn alongside CPDT, CNWI, and AKC-judge instructors who oversee our curriculum
- Give back — help build the mid-Missouri dog-sport community that got you started
From student to instructor
Assist a class
Start as an assistant in an existing class in your sport — learn how our small-group format runs from the inside.
Co-teach with a mentor
Share the floor with an experienced CCSC instructor who coaches you on lesson plans and class management.
Get checked out
Walk through our curriculum, equipment, and safety standards with the owners before taking the lead.
Lead your own class
Run your own 6-week session — with continuing education encouraged, like CPDT and CGC evaluator credentials.
What we look for
- Active competitor — you're currently competing and titling in the sport you want to teach
- Positive methods — a commitment to the progressive, humane training our curriculum is built on
- Comfort with groups — background in handling class groups of dogs and handlers (assisting counts!)
- Reliability — classes run 6-week sessions, and your students are counting on you every week
Not sure you're ready?
Assisting is the perfect first step — no long-term commitment, and you'll know quickly whether teaching is for you. Reach out or talk to your instructor after class. See who you'd be joining on our instructor roster.
